its the gift that just keeps on giving. adeles monster album '21' has notched another week atop the album charts. even though it was released 68 WEEKS AGO, it fought off new albums from classic crooners alan jackson, the beach boys and neil young, to prove yet again why adele is queen. 21 is now among an elite group of just 8 albums that have spent 24 or more weeks at #1, since billboard started charting music 56 years ago. here's the list:
Weeks at No. 1, Title, Artist, Peak Year
54, "West Side Story" soundtrack, 1962**
37, "Thriller," Michael Jackson, 1983
31, "Rumours," Fleetwood Mac, 1977
31, "South Pacific" soundtrack, 1958
31, "Calypso," Harry Belafonte, 1956
24, "21," Adele, 2011
24, "Purple Rain," Prince and the Revolution/Soundtrack, 1984
24, "Saturday Night Fever" soundtrack, 1978
pretty amazing accomplishment for a 20-something british lass who has only 2 albums under her belt. wonder how long she can keep the momentum going...? check out some gems from 21 below and experience the magic. <3 you adele.
What does the "**" mean next to West Side Story?
ReplyDeletesorry! forgot to include the footnote: ** (The figure of 54 weeks at No. 1 combines the set's time atop separate stereo and mono LP charts before the Billboard 200 became a singular ranking the week of Aug. 17, 1963.)
